5 prisoners are listed as missing and presumed drowned, which is to say they might have escaped without getting caught. Follow the link to read about all of the escape attempts and what happened to the prisoners.

ReplyDeleteIt has never been absolutely determined that anyone ever successfully escaped from Alcatraz. But, then again, it wouldn't be, would it? I mean, they were prisoners. You think if they got away, they would be going around telling everyone, "I escaped from Alcatraz. They think I drowned, but I didn't."?

ReplyDeleteThere are no "confirmed" escapes meaning they escaped with their lives and were in any condition to make a run for it.
ReplyDeleteTheodore Cole & Ralph Roe actually made it into the bay but the weather was bad and they disappeared. It is believed that they may have been swept out to sea. Others say they may have made a good run for it.
